Presentation to Dogs for the Disabled
An excellent evening was had by all on 27th July 2009 when Louise Hart the northern trainer for Dogs for the Disabled was able to attend our 4th Monday in the month training and supper evening. The club was able to present the charity with a cheque for £5000.00, our second such donation to Dogs for the Disabled. £5000.00 is the approximate amount required to raise and train a dog and its new owner (please see picture of our new sponsored puppy Spice). Louise also brought along one of the dog’s and kindly gave us a demonstration and talk on some of the assistance the dogs are able give to their owners, Louise was also only to happy to answer all the questions many of us had. about the dogs and their training. Later in the evening Louise kindly presented some of our members with their Qualified for Crufts rosettes.

The donation was generously raised from various activities run by the club’s committee, members, show exhibitors and friends, from coffee mornings, raffles etc., we also hold an annual Companion Dog Show for all types of dogs both cross breed and pedigree and all the proceeds are given to the charity. Also the club gives 25pence from every dog entry at our two open shows each year. All that said we cannot rest on our laurels as the charity needs all the help they can get, so the fund raising must start again.

Companion Dog Show in Aid of Dogs for The Disabled 30th August 2010
Our annual Companion Dog Show in aid of Dogs For The Disabled was held at our Monday night training venue Upper Morris St. Working Men s Club. The event started brilliantly when a family and their Dog for the Disabled arrived to support the event. Before the competition started young Alice and her dog Bella gave us a demonstration of how Bella assists her, Alice's mum then did a short question and answer session (see picture below). It certainly focused our minds on the reason we were there and the wonderful and worthwhile charity Dogs for the Disabled is.
The show was judged this year by the well known and respected whippet exhibitor and judge Mrs Cath. Whimpanny. Whilst the judging took place some of the committee sold home made refreshments ably helped by young Laura Morris whilst her mum Vicky and other daughter Rebecca manned the Bring and Buy stall. Many of the items had been donated by our club members. A thank you should also go to the Seddon family who helped set up, sold raffle tickets and helped to steward. The event raised over £400.00 and the money will go towards the club's target of raising another £5000.00 to sponsor our 3rd Dog for the Disabled. A big thank you to everyone who supported the event and making the afternoon so enjoyable.
